Robert Mars 'King of the Road' mixed media on board 121 x 91cm

This is one of 3 pieces just arrived at the gallery this morning that we’ll be taking to Amsterdam for the AAF at the end of October. We’re also taking Robert’s work to ART LONDON from the 2-6th October next week.

Robert: ‘My work is a chronicle of Americana. I am determined to capture the independent aesthetic of the not-so-distant past that has been replaced by homogenized corporate culture and standardized cityscapes. Industrial design, graphic design, architecture and vintage neon all render important roles in my work.

My paintings employ layers of color, subtly collaged printed matter from the 1950’s and 1960’s, and stark, black imagery. Remote, indistinct landscapes capture the once poetic, and now nearly lost highway strips of the American past. Formerly the promise of hope and prosperity; these icons are now a sign of desperation and ruin’.

Robert will be constructing a live installation at Dublin’s famous department store Brown Thomas this October. Press Call Oct 1st, Installation 3rd-12th. There will also be more plastic works showing at Brown Thomas, Dundrum Center (just outside Dublin) during this time. Admission is free.
