'Wallpaper' Composition in Blue and Silver - Oil on canvas 7 x 5ft

‘The initial idea for the canvases was to use a wallpaper design that dominates my childhood house as a compositional device for a series of large-scale drawings in paint.
The drawings are gouged into the surface of the paint to create a line that is three-dimensional.
Changes to and the eventual obliteration of the design have meant that I have been able to use it as a peg upon which to hang ideas, to create stories throughout the pattern, and, most importantly, to present the idea that nothing is guaranteed not to change.
I have also included two series involving a variable number of collage/drawings on doll’s-house wallpaper and on brown card. These images contain thoughts and ideas of a more spontaneous variety, striking a balance between conscious and unconscious ways of working’
